About Us
Rookie-To Gallery was conceived as a place to showcase a selection of
fine American Crafts, showing a spectrum of techniques, that are unique
and affordable. Our desire to share our love of things
hand made has continued to be the central focus. We give preference to
local artists but are always looking for new work throughout the United
States. Recently we have added a few Canadian craftspeople and when
traveling abroad we use the same guidelines when we occasionally ship
crafts back to the Rookie-To. Whether you want a new mug for your
morning coffee or are a serious collector of crafts we feel you will
find it at Rookie-To.
Rookie-To, Boontling for quail, is in a 30's California bungalow. Built
by Luster Bevins with fir floors, double hung windows (the original
ropes are still in use) and redwood siding, Rookie-To has seen two
expansions since opening in 1986. The old pantry of sturdy shelves, for
all those canning jars, now safely holds a back stock of ceramics and
glass. Everything is nicely chilled!
Most of our staff has a background in the arts or is a craftsperson. We
enjoy being around the work at Rookie-To and would like to share our
enthusiasm and knowledge with you. Please never hesitate to ask
questions about the artists and techniques.
While we have had a personal relationship with some of our craftspeople
since opening, we continue to introduce new artists in a continuing
endeavor to always present new talent. We feel we are fortunate to have
so many customers who have been stopping at Rookie-To for the last 18
years, and we hope you will also make Rookie-To a regular stop.
